Whoever said this famous quote must have come from privilege and never struggled. Money may not buy happiness but poverty can't buy you anything! Money buys certain privileges; not only food in general but healthier food which leads to less disease and thus less stress, pain, and medical bills. Money pays for "good" insurance so you're prepared for and protected in case of car accidents or medical emergencies. Money pays for a better living situation, living in the "nice side of town" has it's advantages and owning your own place is invaluable. Money pays for vacations that relax and educate you about the world. Having money and not getting into credit card debt is also a life saver. You get the idea. Someone once said, "Money cant buy happiness but I'd rather be crying and depressed in my own mansion than in a rented apartment in the hood."
