Galletas Marias have started trending in the Mexican dessert scene and have become a staple in many sweet recipes. I however remember them as the "poor people cookie" (no offense intended) they've always been affordable and plentiful, and if you didn't have much and wanted to fulfill your sweet tooth, they were the snack of choice. I remember while in Mexico, we'd stop by and visit random relatives or acquaintances of the family and they would always offer some Marias cookies as a way to host and be polite. I've never been a fan, I've always thought they tasted like paper but I recognize that I'm probably just being a brat. My mom loves them and a lot of people eat them with their morning coffee. They've just always reminded me of poverty and hard times and those are times and memories I'm not trying to run back to.
